sound design

Sound design was love at first listen. From the moment I took my first class at The University of Texas at Austin, I was hooked on the art of foley and the craft of building a sonic world from scratch. Learning how to shape sounds for film and video games felt less like schoolwork and more like unlocking a new creative superpower. The examples below are some of
my favorite pieces from that journey.

Katie roach - sound design

For this class project I was given two cut scenes from the critically acclaimed video game Gris and tasked with creating completely original music and sound design for each one. It was a chance to work with visuals that were already beautiful and figure out how sound could make them hit even harder.
Everything you hear in both videos was
composed and designed by me.

This project pushed me beyond composition and into implementation. Using Unity and FMOD I coded my original music and sound design directly into a working game environment, learning how audio actually lives and behaves inside an interactive experience. The graphics and base assets were provided by Unity, but the entire sonic layer was mine to build and integrate. It was a whole new side of game audio and one I really enjoyed getting my hands on.
